Just Hanging Out

We haven't been up to too much lately. It seems like the three of us have all had some form of sickness, but we've been lucky enough that it's all been minor. Mae was tested for flu, but it ended up just being a horrible cold. Over the past couple of weeks we've also had a little glimpse at Fall weather. My personal favorite!! I'm anxiously awaiting for the weather to be here for good!

Last Friday night we went out to Six Flags and the weather was glorious!! And an added bonus was that the park was having a private party so there were very short lines. Good times!!

A couple of months ago I sketched out a fort for Ashton to build for Mae. I sketched it out with the intention that we would use existing wood to build the fort. Ashton got pretty bored on Sunday and was looking for projects to do. He started on Mae's fort. I think it's going to be super cute and Mae will get lots of use out of it! I can't wait to see it complete! I can just see her wanting to do campout in it. Fun! She was daddy's little helper! We don't have any plans this coming weekend so I'm sure the fort will get close to completion!

I looked at our calendar yesterday and we don't have any plans for the next two weekends! I'm really excited about that! Woo-hoo!!

Uncertain...

We went on a mini Vacation last weekend to Uncertain, TX - On Caddo Lake. Where is Uncertain, one might ask, well it is where the trail ends and the Cypress Trees Begin in Far East Texas. Uncertain is a city that we have been visiting, as a family, for almost 10 years. The town is actually at the end of the road, which seems to lead to nowhere. Once we arrived, we felt right at home and began relaxing. After the 3+ hour drive, Momma, Mae and I all took a relaxing nap.

Overall, It was a Very relaxing weekend with the 3 of us and GrandDad and Lulu. The cottage that we rented was one that Meredith and I have stayed at many times over the years with Meredith's Family. Our only real activities were Canoe rides and a boat Tour of the Lake.

GrandDad and I took Mae on a Canoe Ride and she Loved Every minute of it - It might have been the Quietest I have ever seen her. She seemed to be sitting, relaxing and just taking all of the natural beauty in!Mae and Momma decorated cakes and I think Mae likes sprinkles more than the cake!
We all took a tour of the Lake in a very unique boat, one that would take us to areas of the lake that most do not see. Caddo lake was once the only natural Lake in Texas. Mae was not too excited to be on this boat being that it was her nap time...so after fussing for a couple of minutes, she fell fast asleep in her mommas lap and slept for the rest of the 45 minute tour. Our tour Guide, Billy, has lived on Caddo Lake his entire life, which made for an interesting tour! We are already thinking about our next trip out, maybe in the Spring.

What's Been Going On

Well, we’ve been going thru some adjustments in our household. We now have Miss Mae in preschool 5 days a week and Ashton is attending college in the evenings two nights a week. It’s been a hectic couple of weeks!

This past weekend Mae and I were on our own with the beginning of Dove hunting season. Who wouldn’t want to go shoot the bird of Peace. Anyways…Mae and I had a lovely weekend. We spent some time at Grandma & Grandpa’s house so that I could get some sewing done with the assistance of my mom. Mae’s school didn’t tell me that she’d need a nap mat until the Friday prior to school starting. She went the first week just using a couple of blanket, but now she has the prettiest nap mat in class. I found a “simple’ pattern online and created her nap mat from that. The fabrics I chose were pretty and so cuddly, but not the most friendly to work with. It was a challenge, but in the end I’m happy with the way it turned out.
That evening we met up with Lulu for some shopping and a little “Girl’s Night Out”. We headed out to get Mae some new shoes. She has plenty of pairs, but she has become quite the picky Fashionista! She now argues with me over what shoes she will wear. I’ve even had to return a pair of shoes that she refuses to wear. I’m glad that they still had the tag on them! I’m only guessing that the next argument will be over clothing. On her third day of preschool she decided that the only thing missing from her outfit was a bonnet. Yes, a bonnet. My child refused to take it off, and went to school wearing. So funny. I’m sure teachers see all kinds of crazy stuff from the little ones. By the time I picked her up from school, she had removed the bonnet.

The transition to preschool has been very easy for Mae. She loves going to school, and if she hears you mention school she gets so excited. The school is wonderful, and her teachers are exceptional. Her teacher has been teaching for 43 years! I think Mae is really going to thrive in this environment.

On Sunday Mae and I planned on going to Six Flags. As a season pass holder we had a coupon to bring a friend for free. We asked Uncle Wade to come as our friend. We had a great time walking around and riding a few rides. The only complaint I had was how miserably hot it was!! So humid too! I think we all enjoyed being together and having some fun. Mae was so exhausted after our outing she took a 4 hour nap!
Monday morning Ashton returned home from his hunting trip all stinky and hairy! We spent the entire day doing nothing! That was a great way to spend the day.

I’ve also started a little mini-remodel. When we bought our house, it didn’t necessarily meet all of the items on our wish list, but I saw potential in it. We’ve (mostly Ashton) have remodeled our living room and kitchen so far. The next room I’m working on conquering is the mud room. When we remodeled the kitchen, we removed the wet bar from the mudroom to reuse the cabinets in the kitchen. That left us with a wall that needed to be textured. I have now textured the wall and I’m working on picking out a paint color. The mudroom is going to be changed into a dining room. It’s a small room, but it will make a cozy dining room. I really enjoy having a place to host meals for big groups. This room shouldn’t take long to remodel. We still need to scrape the popcorn off of the ceilings and texture them. The biggest thing after that is polishing and sealing the tile floor. I hope that we can have this process complete by Thanksgiving so we can host a meal for Ashton’s side of the family. Wish us luck!

We have another packed weekend ahead of us. More fun times to come.
